Q: What are some tips for finding a good Realtor?
A: I think a lot has to do with chemistry. You want to choose after meeting them and talking with them to make sure you are comfortable with them. It is a very personal inter-business, so you have to be able to trust them and feel like they are working in your best interest.
The first thing when looking for an agent is to try to find referrals. If you have friends in the town where you are looking to move, ask them. That is the best way to go about it, as they would have a lot of insight. You can also definitely go online.
A good Realtor is someone who listens more than talks and someone who is more guiding the buyer rather than selling the house. The buyer can get so much information online now, but the real estate agent’s value is sifting through the info to provide the buyer with valuable information. This means information versus knowledge, which the Realtor has.
I think there is a lot of overwhelming information that the buyer gets for free but it can also be more confusing. The agent walks the buyer through the entire home-buying process, so you are looking for someone who is going to make referrals for you to attorneys, mortgage brokers and inspectors and be able to explain everything clearly.
